AmCham Libya was pleased to host a virtual meeting between U.S. Special Envoy to Libya, Ambassador Richard Norland and the doctors from the Libyan National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) who recently participated in the U.S. CDC Public Health Emergency Preparedness Fellowship program. Dr. Taher Emahbes, Head of the Epidemiology Department at NCDC, and Dr. Hazim Ogorban, Director of the Emergency and Risk Communication office at NCDC, spent 12 weeks at the CDC in Atlanta, GA, participating in the program which is designed to build public health emergency management capacity among members of the international public health community who work in preparedness and response areas. Dr. Taher and Dr. Hazim shared that they are already implementing what they learned during the program, and that they had received specific support related to the Derna disaster from the U.S. CDC team. Ambassador Norland expressed his great pleasure that they had been able to take advantage of this opportunity, and emphasized the high level of importance that the U.S. Government places on healthcare diplomacy.
