On January 11, AmCham Libya, together with the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) organized a reception to honor the delegation of Libyan businesspeople who will be attending the World of Concrete Conference in Las Vegas, NV from January 17-19.

This is a U.S. Commercial Service delegation. It is being organized together with the TCCI. The benefits of a U.S. Commercial Service delegation include assistance arranging and scheduling appointments with U.S. exhibitors and a reception for delegates to meet up with U.S. companies who are interested in exporting to Libya

This event is significant for the following reasons:
  • This is the first time that there has been a U.S. Commercial Service delegation from Libya.
  • This type of event would not have been possible in recent years because of the strict visa policies with respect to Libyans. This mission is coming at a time when the U.S. Embassy is working diligently to facilitate U.S. visas for Libyans.
  • Events such as this one create a high likelihood for increased bilateral trade.

Guest speakers included Pedro G. Campo-Boué, U.S. Embassy Economic and Commercial Officer; Keith Kirkham, Regional Senior Commercial Officer, U.S. Department of Commerce; and Guevera Yao, Executive Director, U.S.-Africa Business Center, U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

In person special guests included Ibrahim Eshible, Mayor of Tripoli, and Mussa Ezubik, Manager of Private Sector Development and Investment at the Ministry of Economy and Trade.

AmCham expects that this event will serve as an important benchmark, and that we will be able to continue repeating similar missions for different sectors.
