AmCham Healthcare Workshop in Tripoli
January 27, 2026 - January 28, 2026
AmCham Libya was pleased to organize the first-ever U.S. Company Healthcare Workshop in Libya. With the participation of some of the world’s leading healthcare companies, the workshop aimed to highlight the world-class goods and services these companies provide and to engage closely with key Libyan government stakeholders. U.S. healthcare companies face challenges when they engage in Libya, in particular in the area of payments. This workshop brought together key stakeholders to identify challenges in the process, and start a discussion on how to improve the situation.
Participating U.S. companies were: Abbott, AbbVie, GE Healthcare, IQVIA, Medtronic, MSD and Pfizer. Presentations given by the companies included topics such as “Pharmaceutical Illicit Trade: A Threat for Patient Safety”, “Rapid diagnostics in service of the Libyan population”, “Pharma industry trends and data importance in healthcare management”, “Innovations in the area of imaging” and “Latest developments in diabetes pumps”.
Important Libyan stakeholders participated, including Minister of Health Mohamed AlGhoj and Haider El Saeh, Director General of the National Center for Disease Control and Head of the National Cancer Control Authority. The U.S. companies had the opportunity for one-on-one meetings with Minister AlGhoj.
Mike LaRocque, the Embassy Commercial and Economic Officer represented the U.S. Embassy and took advantage of the event to engage closely with the U.S. companies present and the Libyan government stakeholders.
During the Healthcare Workshop, AmCham Libya was excited to support a U.S. Department of State virtual event highlighting the Libyan health sector. For the first time ever, Libya was showcased through the U.S. State Department Direct Line program which highlights programs of commercial interest around the world. Presented by the U.S. Embassy and the Minister of Health, the event highlighted the opportunities for U.S. companies in the Libyan healthcare sector, and delivered the message that the U.S. Government is encouraging U.S. companies to engage in Libya.
AmCham is grateful for the continuing support of its members for making the effort to come. And, as always, we are grateful to the U.S. Embassy for spending time with the participating companies.
